What is the difference between an ordinary ONU and an ONU that supports POE?

Security people who have worked in PON networks basically know ONU, which is an access terminal device used in PON network, which is equivalent to the access switch in our usual network.

The PON network is a passive optical network. The reason why it is said to be passive is that the optical fiber transmission between the ONU and the OLT does not require any power equipment. The PON uses a single optical fiber to connect to the OLT, and then the OLT is connected to the ONU.

However, the ONU for health has its own uniqueness. The system can only realize and monitor security scenarios under wide temperature requirements. This is not available in ordinary ONU equipment. The common ONU is generally a PON button, and it also has a PON. And POE port, and it has PON port and PoE port at the same time, which not only makes the network flexible, but also saves additional power for the surveillance camera.

The biggest difference between an ordinary ONU and an ONU that supports PoE is that the former can only be used as an optical network unit to provide data transmission. The former can not only transmit data, but can also connect to the camera through its PoE port to supply power. It may not seem like a big change, but in some special environments, such as bad environment, inability to dig for power supply, inconvenient power supply, etc., it has great advantages.

I think this is the difference between PON in the field of fast-band access and monitoring. Of course, ONU with POE function can also be used in the broadband field.

Although the application of PON access method in monitoring is not very extensive, it can be seen that with the development of safe cities and smart cities, the use of PON access methods will become a matter of course.
